Pippin Project Update

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

My neighbors can definitely hear me singing.

I’ve been reduced to singing whenever I’m in the car to avoid detection. I did this yesterday on the way to the dog park with Lila, but she wanted to stick her head out the window like a dog and so my solitude was ruined.

Does anyone who is in the Atlanta area know how to play the piano?

Isn't spring pretty?

The Pippin Project

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

My blogging (and real life, actually) friend A. Fiercehair (a.k.a. Amanda), has been working on making her blog more interesting lately. Apparantley, one of the tips from the bloggers in the know is to undertake some kind of project and blog about it. Amanda’s current project is Dunkin’ and Deceivin’, which you can read about here and here. One of my projects that I already blog about is writing, but I’m applying to a bunch of contests and working on publication stuff right now, and I can barely keep everything straight, much less reflect on it in this blog. Also, I kind of think my loyal blog readers are who they are. (Hi, guys!) But…I am going to undertake a project this week that you all might find interesting.

I get to do a lot of creative things in my life. Writing is the obvious one. I also do creative things in school (I hope), especially this semester when I’m taking a class called Experimental Texts that is all about approaching scholarship in unique forms. Despite that, I really miss singing, which is something that used to be my main creative outlet.

So, the project. I’m going to audition for a musical next week. The show is at a semi-professional (not clear on EXACTLY what that means) theater in North Atlanta. They’re putting on Pippin, an eighties musical about…well, about Pippin.

The main character (um, Pippin…) is a guy, and they’re only casting five women total. So I’m not really expecting to get in, although that would be cool. All I really want out of the experience is to be able to say I did it, and that I did the best I could. So, more to come this week as I prepare for Pippin (while also trying to keep up with schoolwork, applications, and the ball-of-disaster I call Lila.)

For a peek at one of the songs, go here. (Pam, any instructions on embedding You Tube videos?)

Little Portable Cakes*

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

For those of you who are particularly stalker-y (or just interested), Pam has blog enteries about my Portland visit here and here and here AND here. Click the third “here” if you just want to jump right to the shower picture… :)

For the bulk of this blog, bear with me. This is my first time trying to incorporate Flickr pictures without them being all tiny and weird…

So, Aimi and I made these awesome Champagne-Pear cupcakes today.  We used Bosch pears (I think.Whatever ones have the kind of brown skin.) I didn’t think to take pics of the batter-making process. Baby steps. But here they are pre-frosting:

Here again:

Sorry so dark...

They were AWESOME. There is still some champagne left, and I think I may have to buy more butter and sugar (because these used almost all I had) and make them over again tomorrow for Sunday dinner, but with strawberries.

We’ll see. I have yet to do homework this weekend, or to finish my writing goals.

*Thanks to Pam for the photo tutorial!! (There, I linked to you FIVE times in this blog to thank you.)
