The Pippin Project
My blogging (and real life, actually) friend A. Fiercehair (a.k.a. Amanda), has been working on making her blog more interesting lately. Apparantley, one of the tips from the bloggers in the know is to undertake some kind of project and blog about it. Amanda’s current project is Dunkin’ and Deceivin’, which you can read about here and here. One of my projects that I already blog about is writing, but I’m applying to a bunch of contests and working on publication stuff right now, and I can barely keep everything straight, much less reflect on it in this blog. Also, I kind of think my loyal blog readers are who they are. (Hi, guys!) But…I am going to undertake a project this week that you all might find interesting.
I get to do a lot of creative things in my life. Writing is the obvious one. I also do creative things in school (I hope), especially this semester when I’m taking a class called Experimental Texts that is all about approaching scholarship in unique forms. Despite that, I really miss singing, which is something that used to be my main creative outlet.
So, the project. I’m going to audition for a musical next week. The show is at a semi-professional (not clear on EXACTLY what that means) theater in North Atlanta. They’re putting on Pippin, an eighties musical about…well, about Pippin.
The main character (um, Pippin…) is a guy, and they’re only casting five women total. So I’m not really expecting to get in, although that would be cool. All I really want out of the experience is to be able to say I did it, and that I did the best I could. So, more to come this week as I prepare for Pippin (while also trying to keep up with schoolwork, applications, and the ball-of-disaster I call Lila.)
For a peek at one of the songs, go here. (Pam, any instructions on embedding You Tube videos?)

Boy, it’s a sad day when I’m the technical advisor.
If you go to that youtube clip, on the right screen there’s a place that says “embed” and you just copy that thing and paste it in like this:
And if I did it right, hopefully it will be embedded.
I watched the first 20 seconds and much as I love and appreciate you, it made me want to stick forks in my ears.

Didn’t work.
Maybe WordPress doesn’t like embedded Youtube clips in comments.
OR maybe I was: Doing It Wrong.
You results may vary.

Yay for reclaiming your musicality! I’m sure I used that wrong, but I’m happy for you.
I only hope you are cast as a crow. Or something else with a phallic hat.
I look forward to the brilliant posts on the inner workings of the stage!
